Event Rules

Behavior

All 605 Pop Culture Con attendees, guests, vendors, staff, and volunteers are expected to interact in a respectable and positive manner. We are all here to have a great time, so please use common sense and be courteous.

  • We are looking to provide a safe, secure, and pleasant environment, these activities are not allowed at any Voices Against Cancer Event:
  • Engaging in disruptive and unsafe behavior that disturbs or endangers the attendees, guests, vendors, staff, or volunteers.
  • Physical or verbal harassment of the attendees, guests, vendors, staff, or volunteers.
  • Any activities deemed to be nuisances to the convention or the convention premises, including excessive noise or behavior considered generally disruptive.
  • Any act which could result in substantial risk or harm to people or property.
  • Sexual misconduct, such as indecent exposure, offensive touching, or sexual harassment.
  • Laser pointers, laser-aiming devices, or similar devices, may not be used in public, unless you are officially sanctioned to lead or present a convention seminar, workshop, display, or other convention-sanctioned event in which a laser is needed.
  • Any literature distribution without prior permission of 605 Pop Culture Con.
  • In the interest of respecting the rights of people who want to be left alone, the following behaviors are considered unacceptable without prior consent of the recipient: hugging, groping, back-slapping, kissing or other unwanted physical contact. This also includes unwanted advances or other similar forms of behaviors considered to be harassment.
  • Engaging in any activity prohibited by law.

All individuals whose actions violate these rules will be asked to stop such actions. 605 Pop Culture Con reserves the right to require anyone violating these rules of conduct to leave the event. Voices Against Cancer may withdraw permission for a person or persons to re-enter the event if that person continues to violate these rules.

Any violation of the rules of conduct which involve activities prohibited by law will result in notification of the proper authorities.

Photography and Video

  • Please ask our convention attendees for their permission before taking their photograph. If they say no, please do not take a photo of them anyway.
  • Please ask parent, guardian, or chaperone for permission to take a minor’s photo and let them know where the photo will be located. If they say no, please respect their wishes.
  • Take special care not to obstruct the flow of traffic.
  • Photography and recordings may be permitted during workshops, panels, and guest sessions and in the Artists’ Area at the discretion of the host(s)/artists involved. If you are unsure whether photography or videography are allowed during a particular event or in a particular area, ask permission from Fandom Events Staff first.
  • Flash photography will not be allowed during Guest signings or Celebrity Q&A sessions.
  • Photography and video of merchandise in the Dealers’ Area is prohibited, unless you’ve obtained consent from the vendor.
  • The convention reserves the right to prohibit photography and/or videotaping of any event or area.
  • Convention staff may review and/or demand deletion of any unauthorized photographs or video recordings.

Harassment Policy

605 Pop Culture Con is a safe place for fans to interact with each other, their favorite creators, celebrities, and generally be themselves. This means we expect it to be a safe environment for fans from any ethnicity, creed, religious background, political background, gender, gender identity, sexual identity, sexual orientation, fandom, etc. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. This includes, but is not limited to: physical assault, verbal harassment, sexual harassment, stalking, unwanted physical contact, unwanted advances, or inappropriate photography.

605 Pop Culture Con does not tolerate physical or verbal harassment of the attendees, guests, vendors, staff, or volunteers. Harassment can take many forms. It may be, but is not limited to, words, signs, offensive jokes, cartoons, pictures, posters, pranks, intimidation, physical assaults or contact, or violence. This includes comments and statements made via email, on websites or any of our social networks.
If it is determined – either by observation or by complaint – that an individual or group has harassed another attendee, any or all of the following things may occur.

That individual or group may be:

  1. Warned to cease and desist;
  2. Asked to leave the convention, or;
  3. Banned from the convention for a period of time to be determined by Voices Against Cancer staff.

Cosplay Rules

Dress Code- 605 Pop Culture Con

605 Pop Culture Con is a family friendly event. We want to make sure that parents aren’t embarrassed to bring their small children to the convention. These rules apply to everyone in hotel function space and foyer space that is part of 605 Pop Culture Con. Dress Code Rules:

  1. Costumes that could be confused with local, state, or federal law enforcement of any kind are not permitted
  2. Nothing that you could use to attach yourself, even temporarily, to another person. Examples: handcuffs, leashes, rope, etc.
  3. No profanity on clothing or costume
  4. Flesh colored garments or accessories do not count as coverage.
  5. Underwear is not clothing and cannot be worn on its own.
  6. Shoes must be worn at all times. Flip-flops at minimum.
  7. Men must also wear opaque clothing over their breasts (refer to graphic below for more information). However, it is acceptable that men can remove their shirt temporarily for cosplay photos.
  8. Make sure your costume does not contour to your private body parts. If it does please wear extra undergarments as necessary.

Prop Check

  • All Cosplay props must be taken to Prop Check regardless of size, type, or material
  • All props will be tagged after being approved by prop check staff
  • All attendees are required to comply with requests by Convention Staff, Hotel Staff, to verify that Prop Check has been performed and the prop in question is permitted

Swords, Knives, Axes, or Other Bladed Weaponry

  • No metal weapons (peace-tied, tethered or sheathed edged weapons are not permitted)
  • No blades of any types. There are NO exceptions given even if its dull or covered
  • No sharp edges on non-metal weapons
  • Items may not be swung or used in a threatening manner

Firearms

  • All firearms must have a closed barrel with a visible orange tip
  • All airsoft and paintball weapons are not allowed* this includes BB guns.
  • Attached scopes or laser attachments must be disabled and demonstrate to be unable to power on · Water gun barrels and attachment containers must be visibly empty
  • Firing any type of projectile is not permitted (including water, bubbles, or silly string)
  • Voices Against Cancer will reserve the right for prop removal from public spaces if a gun prop is deemed to be too realistic.

Bows, Crossbows, Slingshots, and Other Projectiles

  • Arrows and other projectiles must have all tips removed. Cover or sheathing will not be permitted.
  • Projectiles must not be strung and demonstrated to be unable to fire projectiles
  • Firing any type of projectile is not permitted (including foam)

Wooden Staves, Bats, Wooden Katanas, or Other Wooden Blunt Objects

  • Cannot be composed of solid metal (metal detailing is permitted)
  • Wooden bats are permitted but will be reviewed year-to-year
  • Metal nails or spikes of any type must not be protruding from all blunt weapons · Items may not be swung or used in a threatening manner
  • Props heavy enough to cause injury may be declined on a case-by-case basis

Non-Wooden Staves, Poles, Flags, or Walking Sticks

  • May not be made of metal
  • PVC and plastic piping is allowed
  • May not be swung or used in a threatening manner
  • As a courtesy, please review flag etiquette when carrying a national flag
  • Selfie sticks are currently permitted but will be evaluated on a year-to-year basis

Bulky Costumes Such as: Wings, Gundams, Fursuits, or Stilts

  • Use a handler if your vision is significantly impaired (a handler is another attendee who will escort you around the convention)
  • Wings must be collapsible or removable to prevent impeding crowds in tight spaces
  • Cosplayers may be asked to remove stilts if staff believes there is a significant tripping hazard
  • Cosplayers may be asked to remove bulky items in tight spaces or crowds
  • Costumes must not have the ability to shoot projectiles of any type

External Accessories

  • Powders, sand or flash-bangs for visual effect are not allowed
  • External speakers, especially if continually playing loud music will be removed from all public spaces
  • All props may not have the ability to use sound
  • Cigarette props must be unlit and unable to emit vapors
  • Real food for food props cannot be used
  • Food packaging props must not contain real food
  • Prop bottles must not contain any liquids
  • Scooters, bikes, inline skates, and hoverboards are prohibited as props and cannot be used in public spaces, exception made during the cosplay contest
  • Signage of any kind is not allowed
